Sorrento SLSC Nippers
sorrento nippers program - Nov 2019 to Feb 2020

Sorrento Nippers is a Junior Development program for children 7-13 years of age. The program aims to educate children about surf and beach safety using games and fun activities to promote awareness. There is a heavy reliance on experienced, skilled water safety personnel to ensure the children are educated appropriately and safely in the aquatic environment. Similarly educated personnel are used to educate in life saving and matters pertinent to the beach environment.

The weekly program consists of 12 Club sessions sessions and optional Competition Carnivals. The season starts in mid-November and runs through til mid-February, with some nippers also competing at the State Junior Lifesaving Championships in early March.

The Sorrento nippers program is run entirely by volunteers, and therefore it is a requirement that each nipper family must take on a volunteer role, such as Age Manager (we need 2 or 3 for each age group), Water Safety (must do SRC or Bronze Medallion course), Nipper Coordinator, Nipper Awards Data Entry, Nipper Competition Manager, etc. You will be asked to nominate for a volunteer role when you enrol your nipper for the 2019/20 season.

Club sessions take place each Sunday morning between 9-11.30am. Most sessions occur at Sorrento Back Beach but occasionally they are at St Pauls Rd Front Beach. The optional competitions are held in different beach locations of the State. The details of all sessions are available in the Nipper Calendar.

Children must be 7 years of age by September 30 to join the program. Children older than 13 can join the program in the SRC/U14 age group if they are new to Surf Life Saving, using it as a training pathway towards achieving their Bronze Medallion in following years. Age groups are capped at 32 nippers to ensure water and beach management procedures allow effective and safe delivery of the program.

Registration for nippers opens September 16th and closes November 5th. Go to the Lifesaving Online to join our club and register (SLSA site provide assistance on their site). Complete membership and make payments for both nippers and their parents a family group) at this point.
